Guam Day 22- Underwater World
3/6/2022 - After a great stay at the Tsubaki on Saturday, Joan and I woke up and went to mass, and then out to breakfast. The cracked egg really needs a post of its own, we will save that for a future day. Chamorro breakfast is quite good though, egg on rice with potatoes and chorizo. Post another great meal, we headed out to walk Tumon bay for more sight seeing, then onto Underwater World. Arsenio, our host family dad, works at Underwater World as an electrician, one of the perks is he gets tickets for his family and he also shares with us on occasion. This was my first time, and with some guidance from Arsenio, 2pm was feeding time for the exhibit, a must see. Entering the building, I got a huge blast of air conditioning, which was a welcome feeling as the temps were getting hot outside. Joan and I headed to check in and then into the exhibit. Imagine walking into a cut in half glass tube that is surrounded by ocean water, and filled with fish habitat, fish, sharks, turtles and rays. I should note, there were a large group of people as well, but they were in the tube not in the tank. We were just in time to see the scuba divers head into the tank, quickly surrounded by all the aquatic life knowing it was feeding time. Joan at this point was just so excited, as I learned this was one of her thrills of being in Guam and getting to witness the show. The feeding of the rays was my favorite part, the divers placed the food on the outside of this glass tube so the ray would climb up the side of the tank to feed, you get a full few of just how big this animal is as it sits sucking on the glass just a few inches away. Joan's favorite would be the sea turtles! A very enjoyable part of the afternoon, it was cool, exciting to watch, and got us really ready to try diving on our own.
Wow. I didn't know there was such an exhibit on the island. What would be really fantastic is if you could see this in the actual ocean. Like you would go out in an underwater upside-down Pier. 🤔
ReplyDeleteNice! Reminds me of snorkeling on Oahu! Beautiful!
