Guam Day 5 - Drive in With Joan

2/17/2022 - Joan and I have been driving into her work together about half the days this week. As my previous post had the map, I will refer you back to that image. She works in Hagåtña, right in the center of the island. We live on the north side, so about 30 mins in each day. I have found the time to be really fun together as we talk about the scenery that goes by and about the NPR news articles that come up on the radio. Yes, we do get NPR and many local radio stations, usually the shows are run from the previous day, we still get a good understanding of the worlds news.

Ok, image two has some good commentary to add. The picture was taken just outside of the judiciary in the parking lot. Now that I have seen wild chickens roaming the streets of Guam, and kaka-ing at 4 am in the morning, I am a strong believer that the chicken came before the egg! These birds are prolific here, and it must have all started with a few that escaped a coop from our neighbors yard. Yes, the kaka-ing never stops around the tiny house, all it takes is one dog running by or a car going down the street to set one rooster off. Its then a chain reaction of kaka-ing like a midnight bark (if you get the 101 Dalmatian reference) , doesn't matter if its 8pm, 1 am, or 5 am. Amazingly you get used to the sound as you sleep.

Comments

  1. It made me laugh at your comments about the roosters 🐓 crowing in the morning. When Michelle and I were in Romania, they were always making their '101 Dalmatians midnight call' 🤣 They didn't roam around but seemed to be everywhere. It is also cool that you can NPR. Little things.

  2. As I recall, the sounds of animals filled the air space in Romania. Not only roosters, but also donkeys, sheep, and goats. It was fun to watch the neighborhood shepherd leading his array of animals to pasture each day. The animals that ran wild in Romania were dogs yet they were the silent ones, but very prolific! I've been enjoying your posts! Thanks for sharing! (Dave finally fixed it so I can comment as well!)
