Guam Day 48 - Return to Asan Beach

4/1/2022 - Can you believe its April? Where is the time going, Joan and I are just having too much fun on Guam I guess, the time is really going quick. I started out the morning getting a run in at Asan beach, still one of my favorite running spots on the Island. This time I read the history signage a little closer, Im not sure I have ever run anywhere where the signage literally says to keep an eye out for unexploded ordinance. No, this isn't an April fools joke. Luckily the main areas of the beach are well traveled and the national park service has done a great job over the last 70 years cleaning up and taking care of the preserve. If I see any white phosphorous I will be sure to leave it in the water. Eye opener though, even in a place where war has not been present for close to a century, this place continues to see the after effects of those events. We have more diving to come, but many of the sites will exhibit just this evidence as well, lots of discarding objects from WWII, can't wait to explore further.

My running time has not been as much of a focus of the last few week, we are getting great exercise by running, biking, going to the gym etc, just less focus  that run time. I think I am down to a 9:20 mile average for 5k. About a min to shave to hit the 9 min target. We are finding that as you rotate sports the muscle development is very different, maybe it's being over 30 now, or just getting back into shape, it's hard to keep pushing that time down if you don't really focus on it. Joan commented recently though I may need a new belt as my shorts are not fitting as well, that's a good sign!

Last thing for today, what do you think of those lovely locks? I haven't had a haircut since being on the island, Im calling this island style hair. The islanders must not agree as I keep getting odd looks, or that's just a product of not being native and 6ft tall. We will never know.

  1. Hmmm Hippy Adam... 🤣 okay sorry. Haven't seen you in long hair. Thanks for taking the time to post the history of the area. Blows my mind what my dad went thru and the memories he carried throughout his life. Just keep exercising, the older you get the harder it is if you stop and then restart. Have a great day my friend.
