Guam Day 81 - Grocery Fun + Strange Ramen

5/4/2022 - A little more grocery fun, a sign of inflation, and some strange ramen. These are all great things to share of what Guam is like. Our date this week was going to Payless, a favorite of Joan's. The top pick is meant to give a sense of just how much great asian cuisine can be found here. Fresh made noodles, kimchi, daikon, yellow radish, tofu, oh my. The Pacific Islander diet has such a large influence from both the sea and its fellow neighbors. Joan is still pushing me to try Kimchi, its a bit too stinky and slimy for me. We will see.

We too are seeing inflation here on the island, gas is now over $6 a gallon. And, the true measure of inflation can always be seen in those delightful Oreos, $8.99 a pack today. No we didnt buy the Oreos, this is Adam's CPI index though. ;)  We are very thankful to be able to find fun cuisine, and afford food, so only positive!

Speaking of that new cuisine, I tried a hot chicken cheese ramen. This package should have listed hot, in more extreme way, HOT! Wow, there really was no cheese to be tasted due to to the chili oil. As for dinner, I'm not sure there will be much to be tasted there either, taste buds will have to recover. I guess if the package is all in Korean, it is hard to gage the Scoville level. (Check out Scoville scale if you are into hot peppery food)

  1. I know Paul would like that variety of Asian products. 👍 I'll get you some Oeros when you get back to the states. Am thankful that the RS premium fuel isn't $6 gal. Keep trying new stuff.

  2. Really like the thought of a Guam Oreo CPI. Oreo economics. Wonder at what price point people stop buying Oreos altogether. Inflation leads to waist reduction. Hmmm. The Korean ramen looks interesting. Might be good in a. casserole, where you could dilute the heat with cheese and tomatoes.

  3. I'm feeling your pain Adam. High gas prices. High food prices. Extreme spicy Ramen! Ouch!
