Guam Day 31: Arthur and Digo - Our Booney Dogs

3/15/2022 - The camera really broke out this week, different moving target today, our Booney Dogs. When I say our, they are adopted for the short time here on Guam, owned by our host family. (No Mom and Dad you don't have grand puppies just yet)

Booney Dog is the slang term for "mutt and wild dog" here on the island. As I have spoken in earlier posts, Guam has quite the dog population, many with what I would call loose ownership. Collars are yet to be seen here, from other travels, this ownership idea and care for the pets is a very modern idea, not sure of the history but I bet it was "bred" out of Europe. Some of these dogs are chained up, some live loose, and some have a nice fenced yard that somehow the pups can still evade (such is the case for these two). Joan and I are very fond of these pups, we riden the, ahem, ups and downs with them as they go through colds, removal operations, and bumps and bruises during our stay.

Digo is the light colored male you see in image one. Of the two he is a bit more shy and reserved, and older at the age of 7, I'm told. Joan has the upper hand here, literally, with the ability to pet him on a good day. For me, Digo is still skittish, I think it might be my height, or just being a male in general. We are working on this, not sure Digo has agreed yet with the working on, but yes we are working on it.

Arthur is the reddish brown pup seen in image two. On the other side of the dog spectrum, Arthur is playful, unafraid, and really loves to be petted and cared for by humans. Arsenio said Arthur is about 1.5 or 2 year old, so still just a pup getting to know the world. I have a strong bond with this one, he will come upto me during the day and jump on my leg wanting attention, just as I sit here writing this post. As a sucker for dogs, I will give him the attention, happy dog. With this puppy that is still in him, of the two he is the most likely to get into trash, which brings a sense of concern as we are licked on the hand. Lots of hand washing, the stuff he brings into the yard with a proud look. Yuck!

A dog is totally in our future, and of the two of us, Joan and I, I forsure will be the pushover for providing love and affection! For now, we will just enjoy Digo and Arthur.
