Guam Day 26 - A bike ride down (and up) a hill
3/17/2022 - Really neat evening here in Guam, I got to ride bikes with Arsenio and his friend Bong. Pic one is Arsenio and I prepping for the ride. There are a few bikes on the property, perfect for friends coming and being able to ride We rode a few miles from where we live upto the entrance of Ritidian wildlife refuge. The ride wasn't too long, around 16 miles, moderate for road biking. I am still getting used to riding in the high heat and humidity. I must say, the newly paved roads near Ritidian make for some of the best riding I have ever done, very fast blacktop. Turn around point for this ride is at the bottom of the entrance to the wild life refuge. Im guessing this is a 750 ft drop in a matter of just half a mile, I was told 15 % grade in places. Riding down provides a feeling of power, that potential energy is really something as it turn kinetic, this is a place where you could hit 45 / 50 mph on a bike. Scary speed on twisty windy roads. When you hit the bottom, last image, you look back up at the hill and say oh no, I now have to climb back up. I have never seen a biking technique were you literally ride at an angle to the road to make the steepness more manageable, this is more like skiing than biking. Excited for more riding opportunities on the island. Arsenio and Bong do a ride around the outside of Guam, very interested in future weeks.
Fantastic opportunity. Enjoy. Bikes won't be out here for another month. Snowed again and was 20F. 🥶
ReplyDeleteUgh! The up hill climb. I probably would have pushed the bike up hill OR called Arsenio for a ride on Stroll! 😃
