Guam Day 23 - A hike to Sella Bay

3/7/2022 - Happy Chamorro Heritage Day! Being a territorial holiday, Joan had the day off of work. So three day weekend for both of us. (Joan is reminding me that I have a 7 day weekend any time I want) I was hoping to get out on a hike just to see something new, Joan's friend enjoy getting out as well so a little texting Sunday night and before I knew, we had a plan ready to go to Sella Bay. This hike is just off of highway 2 on the south east side, drive wise it was 45 mins for us. We got an early start on the day, 8 am we were ready at the trailhead as the 5 of us and we set off into the jungle. That lush green foliage that I referred to in a previous post is even more dense in person. There were parts of the trail where you had to push plants out of the way to continue your hike. Today was especially dry so the muddy, clay like trail was quite simple to walk down, a wet day I can see where this was a tough hike. Length wise my guess we hiked about 1.5 miles, the elevation was the bigger change to contend with as these mountainous areas are quite steep as you head to the shoreline. Approaching the bay, you walk over this Spanish built bridge, evidence of another time. The workmanship of the time is quite good, Ferdinand Magellan discovered Guam around 1500 AD, only a guess but the bridge is likely 300 years old or more. Arriving at the beach we noticed the tide was high, this made it harder to walk along the coastline, this meant time for a rest before heading back up. Once again another view that you want to just have last and last. The hike back up was much warmer as we had both the elevation to contend with and the rising sun with warmer temps. Not a bad way to spend a day off.

  2. I could have hung out at the bridge all day! (Civil engineer in me!) 😃
