Guam Day 17: A Japanese Ramen Spot

 Retroactively Posted on 3/3/2022

As you can see this week, many of my posts have been retroactive. My Gma passed on 3/1, Guam time, and I am struggling a bit with finding the energy to keep up the blog, as well as other day to day things. Its always tough to lose a loved one, even though this is how life works. Joan and I will be staying on the island and finding ways for us to celebrate her life, she would and is very proud that we are so adventurous and traveling in ways she and my grandfather did some 60 years back.

A little back story: My grandfather was in the Airforce which included assignments in Okinawa, the Philippines, along with work all over the Vietnam area during the conflict. Grandma traveled by his side during every move. She was amazing supporting the kids, eventually 4 of them, while being halfway around the world.

Ramen is very appropriate for this post, cheers to both of them!

3/1/2022 -  Joan has been great, she worked from home to ensure I was ok, as well as to check in with my family. Really thankful for that. After work we got out for a run again at the Dededo sports complex. That 5k time is getting better at 9' 24". After running we were quite hungry, but we were both just soaked from running. We debated on if we should go to a restaurant in our sweaty condition, driving around a bit we found this place Ajisen Ramen. Completing our stare down of the other patrons from outside, and seeing that many of them were coming in with kids from soccer practice or they themselves from steamy workouts, we decided we would fit right in. This place was great from the get go, our server gave us menus, as you can see above, lined with great ramen dishes. Even better they had Asahi draft on tap, this is japan's light beer. (it beats PBR) We ordered and by the smile Joan has on her face, you can tell just how happy we were to slurp noodles out of a bowl with chop sticks.  She had a ground pork that was very spicy and flavorful, and I had the chicken cutlet that was fried in panko bread crumbs. I have had fried Japanese food before, but never panko that was this light and crispy. We are really loving the different cultural cuisine.

Once again, cheers to my grandparents, you are both loved, and missed greatly!

Am still praying for you and Joan and the family back home for strength and comfort. Celebrating those memories is so good. ❤ The food looks really yummy. Don't forget to wear y'alls sunblock. 😉
